Your First Introduction to Phu Quoc

Phu Quoc is one of the new travel destinations of 2024 that is still little known to travelers from Kazakhstan. The Vietnamese government aims to turn the island into a leading beach resort by developing modern roads, a wide range of accommodation and dining options, and numerous attractions for visitors.

The island is famous for its milky-white beaches, which have earned it the nickname “Pearl Island.” Phu Quoc combines natural attractions with modern tourism infrastructure, making it an appealing destination for travelers. Diving

The most popular spot in the north is Turtle Island (Hon Doi Moi). The island gets its name from the green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas) that inhabit the coastal waters. Divers can descend and observe these fascinating creatures in their natural environment. In addition to turtles, the area is home to barracudas, lionfish, rays, butterflyfish, swallowtail fish, and small mollusks.

Located in the south of the island, the An Thoi Archipelago consists of 15 small islets and forms the main diving area of Phu Quoc. The crystal-clear waters here provide excellent conditions for underwater photography. Fingernail Island stands out in particular, with an underwater world featuring a complex labyrinth of submerged caves.

About 8 kilometers from An Thoi lies Pineapple Island—a must-visit for experienced divers. Its deep waters create ideal conditions for advanced dives, though strong currents require extra caution. The area is rich in marine life, including large tuna, barracudas, and, with some luck, whale sharks. The island is also known for its rocky formations and underwater caves, making it a perfect spot for striking Instagram photos.

Unique Cuisine

Фукуок славится своими оригинальными блюдами, например, нем – вьетнамскими роллами из рисовой бумаги. На Фукуоке стоит попробовать начинку из креветок,кальмаров и рыбы, которые готовятся и на сковороде, пока тесто не станет хрустящим. Жареные нем подают с соусом, а свежие заворачивают в зелень или едят сразу с нуок чам (рыбный соус).

Fish sauce is the soul of Vietnamese cuisine, giving dishes a rich and distinctive flavor. Nuoc mam is produced by fermenting anchovies with salt for several months, and sometimes even for several years. This process results in an amber-colored liquid with an intense yet balanced taste. The sauce is known for its clarity and a smooth, slightly sweet aftertaste. Phu Quoc is especially famous for its nuoc mam, which is considered the best in Vietnam thanks to the island’s clean seawater and traditional production methods. It is often brought home as a local souvenir.

Another iconic element of Vietnamese gastronomy is banh xeo, also known as the “sizzling pancake.” It gets its name from the sound the batter makes when poured onto a hot pan. Banh xeo is made from rice flour, coconut milk, and turmeric, and filled with ingredients such as chicken or pork, shrimp, bean sprouts, green onions, and mushrooms.

Here you will find more than 50 stalls offering fresh seafood and local specialties such as fried sticky rice, silk candies, and black pepper.

Historic Temples and Pagodas

One of the oldest pagodas on the island is Sung Hung Co Tu Pagoda. It was restored in the 1920s and again in the 1960s. Beyond the pagoda walls rise elegant gates adorned with wave-shaped tiles decorated with dragon and phoenix motifs. The interior space is filled with finely carved statues that seem to come alive in the soft light.

Sung Hung Pagoda is a true treasury of rare artifacts. Here you can see an ancient bell, delicate calligraphic couplets, gold-painted tablets, and vibrant decorative panels.

Stunning Beaches

Bai Dai Beach, located in the northwest of the island, is renowned for its unspoiled natural beauty. Its golden sand and crystal-clear waters make it one of the most peaceful spots on Phu Quoc. Tran Hung Dao Street, which runs along the beach, is known for its resorts, restaurants, and hotels, making this area one of the liveliest on the island.

Travelers from all over the world come here for the sunsets, which are considered among the most beautiful in Vietnam. Watching the sun slowly sink below the horizon—almost as if disappearing into the sea—while sitting on the sand or in a beach bar is an unforgettable experience.

Starfish Beach is considered the most famous beach in Vietnam. Stretching for 7 kilometers, it curves like a crescent moon. Its snow-white sand is soft and smooth, reminiscent of cream—so much so that some tourists even try to take a bit of it home as a souvenir. The beach’s true highlight, however, is the abundance of bright orange starfish carpeting the seabed. Touching or picking them up is strictly prohibited. It is worth noting that this is the only beach on Phu Quoc with an ivory-colored shoreline, rich in diverse flora and fauna.

Vinpearl Safari on Phu Quoc Island is Vietnam’s first semi-wildlife park, covering an area of 380 hectares. It is home to more than 150 animal species and over 1,200 plant species from around the world. The park is divided into two zones: an open zoo, where visitors can see rhinoceroses, white lions, and lemurs, and a safari park, where tours take place in buses while animals roam freely in their natural habitat.
