VISA

The visa-free stay period for citizens of Kazakhstan in the Republic of Azerbaijan is 90 days. Entry is carried out with an international passport, where a border crossing stamp is placed. If the stay in the country exceeds 30 days, registration with the police at the place of stay is required.

Currently, due to the unresolved Nagorno-Karabakh issue, the Azerbaijani border service refuses entry into the country to ethnic Armenians.
Regardless of their citizenship, this is explained by the fact that their personal safety cannot be guaranteed.

ENTRY RULES

When crossing the customs border of the Republic of Azerbaijan, goods not intended for production or commercial purposes (for personal use and consumption by an individual and their family members) are declared by individuals under a preferential and simplified procedure.

An individual has the right to transport across the customs border 2 (two) items of the same or similar goods at one time without paying customs duties for personal use.

The following items may be imported across the customs border of the Republic of Azerbaijan under a preferential procedure (without payment of customs duties):

— up to 30 kilograms of various types of food products imported into the customs territory once during each calendar month;

— up to 5 kilograms of sturgeon fish and up to 125 grams of sturgeon caviar exported from the customs territory once during each calendar month.

Export is permitted for:

— personal belongings;

— handmade items and goods officially purchased in the country.

Resident and non-resident individuals and legal entities may export foreign currency in cash in an amount not exceeding the equivalent of USD 10,000, subject to oral declaration.

Resident and non-resident individuals and legal entities may export foreign currency in an amount from USD 10,000 to USD 50,000 (or equivalent) upon submission to the customs authority of customs documents and a written declaration confirming that the funds were previously imported into the Republic of Azerbaijan in cash and may be exported in cash.

Resident and non-resident individuals may orally declare to customs authorities cash national currency in denominations up to 20,000 manats and securities denominated in national currency, as well as amounts of 20,000 (twenty thousand) manats or more. Cash national currency and securities denominated in national currency may be exported from and imported into the Republic of Azerbaijan by declaring the entire amount in writing to customs authorities.

Import is prohibited for:

— weapons and ammunition (except hunting weapons for which a special permit is issued);

— narcotics and narcotic-containing substances;

— animals;

— photographs and printed materials that may be regarded as directed against the constitutional system of Azerbaijan.

Export is prohibited for:

  • antiques (including precious stones, coins, manuscripts and other works of art) without permission from the Ministry of Culture;
  • weapons and ammunition.

When purchasing carpets and carpet products, you must obtain a product certificate from the Azerbaijan State Museum of Carpet and Applied Folk Art. To do this, you must present the purchased carpet and obtain an export permit. Otherwise, export may be prohibited when leaving the country.

When purchasing paintings and works of art, you must obtain a certificate from the National Art Museum of Azerbaijan. To do this, you must present the artwork itself and its photographs. In the absence of a permit certificate, export of your purchase may be prohibited during customs clearance.

Please note that many carpet and art sellers willingly take care of obtaining export certificates for goods purchased from them. Black caviar is allowed for export in quantities of up to 125 grams. It is recommended to make purchases in Caspian Fish chain stores, as the quality of caviar purchased from private vendors at markets cannot be guaranteed.

The customs declaration completed upon entry into the country must be retained until departure.

If a visa is required to enter a foreign country, we recommend applying for it in advance (1–2 months) at the diplomatic mission or consular office of the respective country in Kazakhstan. All information below regarding visa requirements is provided for informational purposes only and cannot be considered as guidance, as visa requirements of each country may change. Detailed and final information should be verified with the relevant embassies.

General Information

A visa is an authorization document that grants a person the right to cross certain territorial borders.

Citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan must obtain a visa in advance to travel abroad, unless otherwise stipulated by law or in the presence of special agreements and arrangements on a visa-free regime between Kazakhstan and the destination country.

Before starting to plan an overseas trip, the issue of obtaining a visa is extremely important. An unprofessional approach may lead to serious financial losses related to ticket refunds, hotel booking cancellations, obstacles to obtaining travel authorization, and other issues. Therefore, visa processing is one of the most relevant and important tasks in organizing a trip and requires a professional approach and expert consultation.

Important Notes

Be aware that visa processing times in some foreign embassies can be lengthy, especially during peak travel seasons. Each embassy independently determines visa issuance procedures, including interviews with a consul, visa fees, and the list of required documents.

Strict compliance with embassy requirements for visa documents (photo size, accurate and legible application forms, payment of consular fees, etc.) contributes to timely and positive consideration of your application. Do not pay for your trip before receiving your visa. Keep in mind that foreign embassies are not responsible for financial losses incurred due to visa refusal or delays. Also, do not assume that purchasing tickets with fixed dates will guarantee expedited visa processing, although some embassies may require such tickets. If you are traveling to your destination via transit through other countries, consult in advance about the need for transit visas, including their validity and number of entries required for smooth border crossings.

After receiving a foreign visa, carefully check the accuracy of all details: passport number, first and last name, date of birth, visa category, number of entries, validity period, and the total number of permitted days of stay. Remember that even errors made not through your fault may lead to undesirable consequences both upon entry and during your stay abroad.
